Many local qualifying residents have no place to turn when the roof begins to leak or the plumbing doesn’t work. Step Up’s goal is to ensure they help as many of these families as they can. Step Up works all year long doing small jobs such as roof work, plumbing, electrical, and heating and cooling repair. They reserve larger jobs for their big “Build Day” each October. On Build Day, a large group works to preserve, revitalize, and rehabilitate several houses in the community.
Following the old barn-raising idea, they provide the labor and materials to ensure residents have hot water, electricity, and indoor plumbing. They also perform major cleanup, painting, and repair work to many houses each year. This group of hard working volunteers does everything necessary to enable low income locals live comfortably and safely. In the past year, they’ve worked on about 45 residences.
For 2018, their big Build Day is scheduled October 13th. A fundraiser is scheduled for August 19th.
